Scouting Report: Beginning with his debut in Atlanta’s farm system in 2019, the rotund right-hander has missed plenty of bats as he’s battled through erratic command issues – though his season-opening start against the Columbia Fireflies was highlighted by a larger quantity, not quality, of strikes. Salinas, who’s generously listed at 6-foot-3, and 205 pounds (he’s much closer to 250 pounds), aggressively challenges Low-A hitters with a simple approach: elevated fastballs and eye-level-changing breaking balls. Salinas’ heater, an easy plus offering, showcases plenty of late life, particularly near the top of the zone – likely due to a high spin rate. The massive right-hander, who’s built in a similar mold as Toronto’s young right-hander Alek Manoah, offers up a pair of above-average breaking balls: a late-biting 12-6 curveball, and a wrinkled slider with late horizontal movement. He’ll offer up a changeup, though I didn’t see one during his 4.1-inning appearance. There’s extreme reliever risk given his size and command issues.
