Background: For a warm weather school that boasts the likes of famous alumni like Jim Harbaugh, Jeremy Lin, Davante Adams, and 1920 Olympic Gold Medalist Dink Templeton, Palto Alto’s baseball presence has been pretty sparse. Just seven draft picks have graduated from the California-based prep school, most notably Joc Pederson and B.J. Boyd, a 2012 fourth round pick by the Oakland A’s who also happens to be the school’s most recent MLB selection. Boyd, by the way, is also the highest drafted player in school history as well.

Until Henry Bolte hears his name on draft day.

A well-built 6-foot-3, 195-pound outfielder, Bolte starred for the Vikings during his final amateur season, helping the squad capture its first CCS (Central Coast Section) championship. The trophy was secured on Bolte’s game-winning dash around the bases against the San Benito Haybalers.

Bolte finished his senior campaign in style, batting .441 with a .577 on-base percentage with double-digit homeruns and more than 40 stolen bases. The teenage outfielder is committed to the University of Texas.

Scouting Report: A tremendous athlete disguised as a baseball player – at least for the time being. Bolte, a multi-sport star during his high school career, showcases plus-plus speed, above-average power potential, and all the tools required to be an above-average big leaguer. He’s just raw and the swing is too mechanical. Bolte looked fooled by offspeed pitches at various points during his senior season as well. He’s very reminiscent of a young Bradley Zimmer. Bolte looks like a mid-second round grade with some added risk due to the rawness of his toolkit. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a team like the Reds or Athletics take a flier on the talented young outfielder.
